Fotographic Follies

I headed out with Besty and Africa today on a bit of a photographic expedition to assist Africa in her plight to master her fairly recently acquired SLR camera. It is the first time Besty and Africa have meet, and although I was keen for them both to get to know one another, and looking forward to spending time with them both, I was not really in the mood for photography.

I just wanted to be at home, in my studio space creating garments and accessories, so I knew it was not going to be a particularly artistically gratifying day for me. Nonetheless I really enjoyed imparting my knowledge, and then stepping back to let Besty fill in with her more extensive knowledge, which also meant I got to learn quite a bit for myself. I think we made quite a good teaching team Besty and I, I know how to dumb it down, and she knows how to tech talk.

We based ourselves at the museum, as it has some quite challenging lighting which gave Africa a chance to really experiment with white balance, aperture and shutter speed. From these foundations she should be able to get a good overview of the basic concept of each setting and do a bit of discovery/experimental of her own.

Afterward we headed out to the Winter gardens and surrounds, as I said, I was not really in the mood, so onto took about 20 shots, which is remarkably few for me. Most of those were of this atrociously ugly wedding party that were having their photos taken in the Domain, the bridesmaids dresses wore these Irish green creations that had a four inch band of white tulle around the bottom, all three of us, who have polar opposite tastes, gasped at the horror.

There was however one quite sweet moment, which I captured for your viewing pleasure.

And here is another one which is postcard perfect, I contemplated Photoshop enhancing the colours so it looked like the leaves were fire engine red, but why screw with what nature has delivered so perfectly.
